To climb the top of Pico Teide it needs a permit from the Nationl Park Office. You should require it minimum 2 months before climbing, as it is very requested. The very taff hike needs 5-6 hours walking. It can be done in 2 days, if you sleep in Refuge Altavista . Please book in advance. You will get up early in the morning to see the sunrise on the Teide top.

Refuge Altavista has no Restaurant: everybody has to bring his own food and can prepair the meal in the well equiped kitchen. The big sleepingrooms for 14 persons are comfortable and refuge opens from 17.00pm - 08.00 morning. Altavista is open all days of the year.

Volcan Pico Viejo is the second highest of the national park with 3200m. You can climb him from the cablecar mountain-station hiking a steep rocky path downhill. Another possibility is to hike up the path from the Mirador Pico Viejo to the suggestive 800m large caldera in 3-4 hours walk uphill. You don’t need permit.

Alto de Guajara is the third highest peak with 2700m and a very suggestive mountain to climb from the Hotel Parador National on 2 paths which can be connected to become a circle. On top you have fantastic views over the whole caldera.

The National Park covers a surface of 18 990 hectars. He was founded in 1958 and the Hotel Parador Nacional and the small chapel Ermita‘ de Las Nieves were built the same year . There you can find today a small Information office for tourists.

Many signed hikingpaths in the National-Park gives the hikers the possibility to discover the exiting world of lava. In 2000 m over sl. are growing many endemic plants which live in very hard survival conditions. They are all rigorose protected by the law.

We suggest you to visit the Parador National for a nightstay as you can observe there a real clear sky. For this thof Observatorium in Izaña” today is one of the most important of the Northern Hemispaere. If you reserve in time it is a visit worth . In El Portillo you can visit the Vulcanolocig Museum for free (10.00-16.00)
